James Stevenson was a respected Cashier for the Bank of Montreal’s new Bytown branch. He moved to the  Hamilton branch, Toronto branch and the Quebec branch. He retired as the honorary chairman of the Canadian Bankers Association. 
“Stevenson was an artist as well. He could paint and he appreciated fine engravings. His excellent taste was reflected in his collection.
