New Westminster, B.C. 17 May 1883 Marcus Smith Letter to his wife
Lot 83 in our auction Saturday 14th May 2022

                     New Westminster B.C.

                                       May 17th 1883

My dear Nannie

I received yours of the 20th April an hour after I had posted a letter to you – you say very little about the ball at Rideau Hall but I suppose the girls found it very full as they would not know many there –

I got Tom started to work on his section last week – staid three or four days with him it is the roughest section on the line and not easy got at except at the upper end at Harrison River. He will have plenty of mosquitoes and you will not likely have many letters from him. The weather is delightful – very warm but yesterday we had some rain which cooled it down a little.

I am going up to Tom to help him for a week setting out work – as the contractors are rushing great numbers of men on to the work –

Young Borradaille has had his salary raised – is working very well and becoming of much help to me – Brophy is also doing well – working hard.

I have no news see no news –

papers. so love to all

                                  Yours ever

                                       M. Smith
