Julia Maesa 218-220 AD 4gm Silver Denarius w/ Juno etc

Julia Maesa was born in Emessa to a High Priest of the local deity Elagabalus (‘God of the Mountain’) and went on to become the powerhouse grandmother to the Severan dynasty. Her younger sister Domna was  Empress to Septimius Severus in 193 CE while  Julia Maesa was the mother of Empresses Julia Saoemias and Julia Mamaea;  grandmother of the Emperors Elagabalus and Severus Alexander.

 Maesa was closely involved with the raising of her grandsons and the fight against Marcrinus to restore the Severan Dynasty after the assassination of Caracalla. She was at the center of power until her death in Rome in 224 CE and was later deified by her grandson Alexander.
