The stamps in this booklet pane feature 10 historic Canadian forts. They can be found all across Canada on seacoasts and islands, beside rivers and harbours, on broad prairies, in foothills, or on dominant heights.
Their various features include stockades, earthworks, masonry walls, log blockhouses, casemates, formidable bastions and tall martello towers.
Canadians from all walks of life used them; fur traders, policemen, whisky salesmen, civic officials, soldiers, gunners and families.
Although the forts are no longer in use, they are visited each year by thousands of tourists.
