| Sales index | It is not just a good idea, but essentially a requirement, that collections of any substance be properly housed. This is not only to show off the material you own but also to make sure they are properly cared for and relatively out of harm's way. Allowing your collection to be frivolously damaged or abused through neglect or nonchalance can not only harm the financial aspects of your collection but also threaten your standing as a respected custodian of the material and archivist of history.
After all, many of the most ardent collectors do consider themselves as custodians of history, keeping the collectibles available for the custodians of the future with all due dignity to the material in question. Failure to do this may antagonize future owners, as yet unborn, who would be quite vexed at the lack of vision of the predecessor collector. Ideally, you want your collection to evolve to a state where your name is attached to it, like "From the Jones Collection". This is not accomplished by keeping your collectibles in a shoebox and taping them to the lid. |
