In the early days of the fur trade, the Hudson's Bay Company was the only European presence in Western Canada, including being the bankers. They literally printed their own money, of which this is a fine example.
Signed in London, May 11, 1820 and in York Factory on November 15, 1820 by Secretary William Smith, Governor William Williams and Accountant John Spencer.
