Derren writes, "Vanpex 2005, held on Remembrance Day weekend in the Year of the Veteran, honours all members of our military, at home and abroad, past, present, and future and their service and sacrifice for hearth and home.

This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War; our show souvenir cover this year pays homage to typical patriotic covers of the era, and the 'V for Victory' campaign.

The Cancel on the cover is modeled on the 'Blackout' cancels seen on mail generated in Canadian port cities during the war, which often handled mail from crews on visiting naval and merchant ships. To prevent enemy agents tracking the movement and anchorage of vessels, through interception of mail from these ships, the decision was made to remove identifying townmarks from hand and machine cancels and to replace them with 'mute' datemarks for the duration."

See you at the show!
