Back to Newsletter index

Great Western Auctions is selling the lifetime Jim Longbourne collection of Canada and World stamps, collections, and postal history in an unreserved, 1000 lot mail, internet, and public auction, on Saturday February 28, 2004 at 10am, in the Renaissance Vancouver Hotel Harbourside, 1133 West Hastings Street. In accordance with a long Vancouver tradition, there is no buyers premium in this sale.

Jim Longbourne grew up in Duncan and Cowichan Station, B.C., served in Belgium, France, Germany, and Holland in World War Two, worked in Halifax, Toronto, Vancouver, and Winnipeg, and is a fixture in Western Canadian Philatelic circles.

Jim Longbourne is a longtime client of Eaton and Sons, and most leading Western Canadian dealers, and is a member of several regional stamp clubs. During his retirement, this avid collector also attended auctions in Oregon, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

The Jim Longbourne Collection fills fifty banker’s boxes and yields a philatelic potpourri of Classics, country collections, Canada, and B.N.A., G.B. and World sets and singles, Postal History, Gibbons listed specialty items, and Jim Longbourne’s special interest:  Airmail and Semi-Official Airmail issues, including covers and ephemera.

Offered in collector-oriented lots in the $100-$1,000 range, Great Western Auctions inaugural sale contains something of interest to most stamp enthusiasts and dealers.  Viewing begins Valentine’s Day, 2004 at the Bay Stamp Department in downtown Vancouver, and continues at the Great Western Stamp Show, February 20-22, at 7551 Westminster Highway, Richmond, BC.

The online component of the Jim Longbourne collection auction can be seen at the Great Western web site.
