Ancient Coin Art |
If coins are high expressions of Ancient artwork, that reflect the beliefs and values of Greek and Roman societies, then contemporary coin art amplifies historic characteristics we can still learn from today. A lifleong passion for coins, and history, inspired Vancouver artist John B. Patrick's current series of acrylic artworks depicting historic Roman coins. The giant coins in 8 x 10, or larger, framed formats are as marvellous as the coins that inspired them. |

Constantine, Warrior Emperor, set against a blood red background, sold immediately, but John's paintings of Nero, The Ides of March coins, and an impressive array of coins depicting the Twelve Caesars are still available.

John is a Vancouver born artist, historian, poet, photographer, and baker. Perhaps inspired by his historical forbears, he crams a lot into his renaissance-man life. John earned his Fine Arts Diploma at Langara College, then took a Classical Studies degree at the University of British Columbia. His artistic creations also include imaginary flower gardens and inticate Celtic designs inspired by the Book of Kells. His current works began with a portrait of the Emperor Claudius, which graced the cover of his book of poetry devoted to Ancient Rome, and continues with his latest work "The Twelve Caesars" inspired by Suetonius' book. |
