Canada Line changes transit routes |
The new Canada Line skytrain opened on August 17, 3 months ahead of schedule. Waits were up to three hours and line-ups were blocks long. Three weeks later, things have settled down and it is possible to get a seat, although it remains popular, especially the airport trains. Today, September 7th, Translink goes to its winter schedule and there will be extensive changes to many schedules and routes, so if you use transit to come to All Nations, we'd like to make you aware of them. There are few changes to Vancouver routes except that the 17 Oak, 15 Cambie, 3 Main and 10 Granville will be extended to Marine Drive Station. |

| The most change will be to Richmond routes. Buses from Richmond to Vancouver will be discontinued, this includes the 98 B-Line, 490 Steveston, 491 1 Road, 492 2 Road and 496 Railway. The buses freed up from those closures will be used on routes from those areas to increase service to Richmond Centre and Bridgeport Station.
Southern suburban lines to Vancouver will go to Bridgeport Station only, but there will be an increase in service. They include 311 Scottsdale, 351 Crescent Beach, 352 Ocean Park, 354 White Rock South, 601 South Delta, 602 Tsawwassen, 603 Beach Grove and 604 English Bluff. |

| If you commute to Vancouver from Richmond or South of the Fraser in your car, you should be aware that River Rock Casino partnered with Translink to build a $33 million, 1,500 stall, 7 level parking lot that costs just $2 a day. The parkade is connected directly to both the Casino and Bridgeport Station and would be a great alternative to driving all the way into the city.
If you plan on using the Canada Line to come to All Nations, this author recommends going to the Langara - 49th Station and catch the 49 UBC bus at the top of the stairs. That is because the 41 UBC bus at Oakridge Station always gets bogged down in Kerrisdale Village, the 49 is less frustrating and faster. The Canada Line is a great addition to Vancouver transit. The cars are large and bright, amazingly quiet and perfectly air-conditioned. Each car has a dedicated space for 2 bicycles and a second dedicated space for people with luggage. The trains are speedy and the platforms are bright and attractive. Vancouver is the first city in Canada to have rapid transit running from downtown to the airport. Vancouverites have something new to be proud of. |
