On July 14th, The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) presented Niagara Falls Mayor Ted Salci with one of its newest colour hologram collector coins, the 2007 Canadian Achievements Sterling Silver Coin - Panoramic Picture: Niagara Falls. The presentation took place in full view of the falls before special guests of the Canadian Numismatic Organization, which held its annual convention in Niagara Falls from July 13 to 15, 2007.

"The Royal Canadian Mint is proud to introduce collector coin designs which continue to capture the imagination of coin enthusiasts," said President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint, Mr. Ian E. Bennett. "The magnificent view of Niagara Falls in a colour holographic photograph does justice to this Canadian natural wonder and pays a fitting tribute to the Canadian inventor who made panoramic photography possible 120 years ago."

Niagara Falls $30 Silver Coin

"We are extremely proud and very excited that the Royal Canadian Mint would acknowledge our beautiful natural wonder, here in Niagara Falls, by commissioning an exquisite $30 silver coin in its honour," added Niagara Falls Mayor, His Worship Ted Salci.

This 2007 sterling silver coin is the latest in a series of RCM collector coins celebrating Canada's technical achievements. The invention of the panoramic camera by Canadian John R. Connon in 1887, which revolutionized photography by making it possible to capture stunning vistas such as Niagara Falls on film, in 180 or 360 degree views, is immortalized in this coin.

The coin depicts a panoramic view of Niagara Falls in a colour photographic hologram, surrounding an

engraving of a camera capturing the dramatic scenery. This design, by Saskatchewan artist Chris Jordison, evokes the countless photographs taken by millions of visitors to this natural wonder of the world. The obverse of this coin features Vancouver artist Susanna Blunt's design of the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

It has a face value of $30 and a limited mintage of 15,000, and is available from Brian Grant Duff at All Nations Stamp and Coins for $95.00 CDN here.
