Great Britain issues Harry Potter Stamps |
Just after the fifth Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, opened worldwide, and just ahead of the release of J.K. Rowling’s seventh and last Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Royal Mail is releasing 17 stamps celebrating the best-selling Harry Potter book and film series. The se-tenant, gummed Ist class (34 pence) Harry Potter stamps, were designed by True North, and show the U.K. editions of the book covers. |
|
These were produced in sheets of 56, but generally sold in panes of 28 at British Post Offices.
Also available are 10 stamps showing the crests of Hogwarts School and the Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin Houses. Five of these come se-tenant in a gummed souvenir sheet. Self-adhesive versions are available in sheets of 20, with heat sensitive ink that reveals magic spell information in the stamp margins. The Harry Potter stamps are produced by special arrangement with Warner Brothers and Bloomsbury Books.

| Royal Mail reports that the Harry Potter stamp preorders eclipsed the preorders for the Beatles stamps they issued earlier this year.
About 325 million Harry Potter books have been sold worldwide. The only questions now are will the Harry Potter stamps from the U.K. outsell the U.S. Elvis Presley issue and will Royal Mail issue memorial stamps for the two main characters who are killed off in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows? Other nations, including Australia and France, have new Harry Potter stamp plans as well. You can order the stamps from All Nations Stamp and Coin here. |
