United States Post Office celebrates 30th Anniversary of Star Wars with Commemorative Stamps |

On May 25, 2007, the United States Post Office released a set of 15 41c stamps marking the 30th anniversary of the George Lucas film Star Wars. The self-adhesive stamps, using artwork by established Star Wars poster artist Drew Struzan, come in a colourful movie-poster style pane. The sheet features characters and ships from all six films in the Star Wars saga. Original favourites R2D2, C-3P0, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, are juxtaposed with their archrivals Darth Vader, and Boba Fett. The Millennium Falcon, Tie and X-wing Fighter spacecraft, a Star Destroyer and Death Star are all incorporated into the overall design. |
 Yoda, is seen of course, but there is no stamp for Jar-Jar Binks.
Backprinting gives detailed information on the characters and spacecraft depicted on the Star Wars stamp sheet. Actors, including Harrison Ford, Alec Guinness, and Ewan McGregor, among others, are depicted in their Star Wars roles. The United States Post Office hopes sales of the new Star Wars stamps will equal or outsell the world international best-selling 29c Elvis Presley Commemoratives of 1993.
