2002 Isle of Man - Harry Potter Crowns

ISLE OF MAN PRODUCES THE SECOND LEGAL TENDER HARRY POTTER COINS

The Isle of Man Treasury produced the World's first official, legal tender coin featuring Harry Potter in 2001. In preparation for the release of the new movie, they have released a new set for 2002.

Harry Potter is the central character in a series of books, for children and adults alike, that has swept the world. Written by British author J.K. Rowling, the books follow the exploits of a boy who learns, on his eleventh birthday, that he is the orphaned son of two powerful wizards and possesses unique magical powers of his own. He is summoned from his life as an unwanted orphan to become a student at Hogwarts, a boarding school for wizards. There, Harry makes several friends who become his closest allies and help him discover the truth about his parents' mysterious deaths at the hands of a powerful adversary.

The Isle of Man Government was continuing to develop the Island's already well established film and media industry and instigated the production of a Manx legal tender Harry Potter coin, which it saw as an ideal opportunity to illustrate its support of both the Manx and British film industries and British children's authors.
