Davidson is a master at reworking traditional Haida form and function. As a result, this design achieves a new and deliberate statement in which he modernizes an ancient narrativeby making it relevent to his contemporaries.

The inspiration for this design is the Haida culture hero Raven. The ancient story tells of a time when Raven reclaimed the sun back from the Chief of the Sky and returned it to the people of Earth.

For Davidson, this design brings an ancient story to contemporary Haida and non-Haida alike so that we may come to know the importance of tradition within his community.

This is one of a series of coins featuring Aboriginal art, and this design has won several awards.
