Canada 1971 British Columbia Centennial Silver Dollar

British Columbia Centennial Silver Dollar

Our beautiful Province has the distinction of having two birthdays. The first, 1858, celebrates the founding of the Colony, at that time far away from the country of Canada, which comprised Southern Ontario and Québec and the Maritime provinces.

This coin celebrates the entry of the Colony into Confederation in 1871, becoming a Province of Canada, which was now as close as Manitoba, and the condition imposed by BC was that the railroad would have to connect BC to the rest of the country.

This is the first commemorative silver dollar produced by the Mint as a non-circulating legal tender coin intended for collectors.

Cased, uncirculated 1971 silver dollar.
