2010 Special Edition $2 Coin Specimen Set

2010 Special Edition $2 Coin Specimen Set

2010 Special Edition $2 Coin Specimen SetUsually, the mint produces a specimen set of coins in a special edition by changing the type of bird on the $1 coin. This year, the Mint is also adding a Special Edition specimen set featuring a different animal on the $2 coin. Instead of the Polar Bear, this year the coin features Lynx Kittens.

The shy and reclusive lynx is often called the "grey ghost of the North." It is easily distinguished by its oversized paws, short black-tipped tail, long thick fur, prominant face ruff and pointed ears with black tufts.

The female Lynx usually produces a litter of 3-4 kittens between May and July. They are born under uprooted trees or in hollow logs that typify the old growth boreal forest where most lynx reside. Lynx kits look like domestic kittens. Te are reared solely by their motherbut will be ready to establish their own range by the following Spring.

Mintage limited to 15,000 worldwide.
