2007 Coloured Silver Maple Leaf - Sugar Maple in Orange

Sugar Maple in OrangeGifts from the Canadian forest

So powerful is the association between the Maple Leaf and Canada that many people would be surprised to learn that of the 115 species of maple trees in the world, only 10 occur naturally in Canada.

The sugar maple is one of them and as its name suggests, it's by far the tree of choice for the production of maple sugar and syrop, one of the countries tastiest exports.

The sugar maple is also one of Canada's tallest and most valuable hardwoods.

Finally, it is one of the trees that each year entertains us with its spectacular foliage. Every Autumn, the landscape

from Manitoba to Nova Scotias is transformed into a stunning canvas of brilliant shades of orange, red and gold, a feast for the eyes.

The coin is 99.99% pure silver and has a nominal value of $5. It has a weight of 31.39 gm and a diameter of 38 mm. Designed by Royal Canadian Mint engraver Stan Witten, the coin depicts the orange hues of the sugar maple's fall foliage. The obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Limited to 20,000 worldwide, this proof coin comes in a presentation case.
